name » Dilan (Xaldin) series » Kingdom Hearts age » 24 [xxxx] physical description » He's not very tall, saying he's 5 feet 8 inches would be pushing it. Dilan is compact and sturdy, but moves with a grace that amazes most. His entire frame is finely toned and trained, usually clad in the modest garb of a monk. His entire life has been based on the strict life of self-denial and training of a priest, and it shows. His black hair would be impossibly long were it not twisted into a multitude of ropes and worn high on the crown of his head. Even so it hangs to his shoulder blades, a few long strands of it framing his face. Apparently fond of uncommon hair, Dilan's sideburns are almost legendary. They form a beard of sorts, the coarse hair sticking out at a sharp angle from the curve of his jawline. Not to be outdone, his eyebrows are thick and highly arched, with a flattened fork at the ends. His eyes are a dark blue, and they almost shine with a hint that Dilan always knows more than he lets on. [xxxx] personality » Like any monk, Dilan has grown to be patient, wise, and nurturing. That doesn't stop him from being one talkative sumbitch. Perhaps it's a side-effect of being alone for so many years, but he can prattle on endlessly about just about any subject, from flowers to politics. At times it's the usual kind reassurance one would expect any monk to exude, but mostly it's just his desire to hold a conversation. He can go from as playful as a kitten to solemn as a tree stump in no time flat, and has a mischevious streak revels in releasing. [xxxx] strengths » Dilan is beyond physically fit. His preferred weapon is a bo, or the ringed staff of a monk. He excells at most forms of martial arts, even going so far as to teach a select few his most special art of Southern Dragon Kung Fu. Also he's well-versed in mental achievements as well; writing, calligraphy, poetry, and philosophy. Aside from that he's incredibly restrained and controlled, and self-assured. His attitude would normally be considered 'cocky', but, then again, it's not cocky if you can back it up. [xxxx] weaknesses » Since the end of his training and the passing away of his mentor, Dilan has lived alone in the temple he inherited from his former master. So at times he can be a bit eccentric and have the carefree detatchment of a man who's lived in isolation for so long. While he's not exactly ignorant of the plight of Azhun's social structure, he has a belief that everything will sort itself out in the end. [xxxx] history » Plucked from becoming a poor citizen of the Drag, Dilan was taken from the streets as very young orphan boy by the man who would become his tutor, Master Feng Lang. Why Master Feng picked he of all children, Dilan never found out. But whatever the case may have been, either luck or fate, he was spirited away from his dismal surroundings and transplanted into what he thought was paradise on earth. Because Master Feng's temple was a place of worship, it was able to maintain its secluded and lush status thanks to governmental support and public donations from various patrons. The transformation from filth-strewn streets to meticulously maintained temple was a shock to Dilan's system, for several weeks after his move there he did nothing but wander the temple grounds. It sat on a modest stretch of land near what he would learn was Geneva street, but within the walls of Master Feng's temple, it seemed like another world all together. It faced the water, a scant 10 minute walk from the shrine gate to the rocky beach of the river. After the awe subsided, Dilan's training began. It was a long and arduous journey for a boy of barely age 6, but he was a child of the Drag at heart. The people who dwelled there became hardy and resilient or were devoured by poverty. He trained intensely, quickly adapting to the lifestyle Master Feng tutored him in. Reading and writing came first, along with a cleanliness of person and mental acuity. Then the physical training - and his master did not slouch simply because of the boy's age. Twelve long years passed as Dilan climbed the ranks. From student to disciple, finally achieving the rank of master at 16*, Dilan was awarded his gold sash. As fate would have it, Master Feng would succumb within the year to a sickness in his lungs, leaving Dilan once again shellshocked - and this time the owner of the ancient temple. As it had served him in his years training with Master Feng, the inner resilience of the Drag-born child cropped up again. He knew his responsibilities, and he tended to them. Some years later he felt confident enough to start his own teachings, and once again opened up the doors of the Four Winds Temple to students. If troubled times were indeed coming to Azhun like the rumors said they were, the least he could do was offer guidance to those who sought it. »»» * - The title 'master' is used loosely here. In Buddhist temples, the rank of master is awarded to someone who has achieved a 5th degree in their martial art and temple philosophy and the like. In reality he could have achieved it at a younger age, as most time is spent being a student doing menial labor before being selected as a disciple. Because Dilan was the only student of his Master, this time would be reduced (as it was during this period that the newcomers to the temple were judged whether or not they were trustworthy enough to learn the temple's secrets). Following the lessons in humility and respect being a student earned, a disciple studies for 2 to 4 years in Xiaolin arts of war and medicine, having learned philosophy and ethics as students. Master rank is accorded to a disciple who has learned fully their martial art and achieved a technical perfection with it (in Dilan's case Southern Dragon Kung Fu), and learned the temple philosophy enough to teach others. They're given the rank of a full monk, and aside from teaching what they've learned, are free to undertake other styles of fighting or philosophy from other masters. [xxxx] OOC; » » of the machinery {AIM} » » Not Dilan or Xaldin. D'aww. He belongs to Square-Enix/Disney. Just having some fun. |
